Falcao: “I want to leave AS Monaco”

Falcao’s situation at AS Monaco is a very sensitive one. Entering his last year under contract, the Colombian international has clear offers and interests, including Inter Miami CF’s desire to make him their star player.

Rumors were confirmed last week, as Oleg Petrov, Monaco’s vice-president confirmed it to AFP. He also said he didn’t want Falcao to leave.

But at the same time, Monaco is actively bidding on strikers, and the ex-Athletico Madrid striker wants to go check if the grass is greener elsewhere. As he told the press Saturday night – after Monaco’s win versus Sampdoria (1-0):

If I want to leave AS Monaco? I received very important offers for my career. I want to answer them. But I know that the VP (Petrov) wants me to stay. For a player like me, it is difficult to stay with only one year of contract [remaining]. I am training normally while studying offers. I give everything. But I hope to clarify my position soon without any fights with the club. We have good relations. We can talk. I understand the club’s position and they understand mine“.

The 33 -year-old striker seemed genuinely concerned by this situation.

Monaco still wants Andre Silva, and only then, would Falcao leave. They are also keeping a backup line open with Real Madrid’s Mariano. But “El Tigre” would most likely sign in Turkey, as he still is Galatasaray’s priority.

We can’t imagine Falcao signing for Inter Miami CF this summer, and stay 6 months without playing. If Monaco keeps him, Inter could acquire the player during the Winter Transfer Window, and therefore get a player fit to play immediately, and for a much smaller transfer fee, since the winter Transfer Window would be the absolute last chance for Monaco to recoup anything on the player.

Jardim (Monaco’s coach) about Falcao:

He gave his opinion on the situation. Everybody knows how much I love this player. He is one of our players that has the most qualities, a 100% pro, our main scorer during the last seasons. Of course, I want him to stay! But it is still a negotiation between him and the club.”

We have a feeling that we will continue to hear a lot about Falcao’s situation until the market closes on August 31st.
