Honored by GQ Magazine with the Editor’s Special Award at the GQ Men Of The Year Awards, Inter Miami CF co-owner David Beckham shared insights on the coming year’s strategy and his vision for the club.
Unlike any other MLS president in history. The halo of light that shines around David Beckham is an advantage that most people in Miami have not yet grasped. He is set to become the first Football legend owner of a club that plays its main country’s league. A vision that seems more and more calculated, than just a turn of events.
In his GQ interview, Beckham explains how he flew to Miami right after his last moments as a professional player and saw all the great potential the magic city had to offer. No need to wait for the first game to admit how much of a visionary he is, Miami has enjoyed constant growth as a city since then and Beckham’s vision for this MLS franchise couldn’t come at a better time.
“The city is growing. The fans are passionate about football and the energy is just electric”.David Beckham on Miami
Not hiding behind any of the realities, like the tremendous amount of work still to be done, building a team and signing the right coach, getting the fans to really engage with the project, and many other challenges (“We don’t even have a kit”) doesn’t seem to make any crack on his legendary Brittish coolness. We hope that the England National doesn’t take his word and call him too soon, at least before we won the MLS!
“I feel that culturally and in terms of its diversity Miami as a city is so unique and so incredible”
Beckham goes on and explains how he wants to model European teams in making Inter Miami CF a global cultural team, with fans all around the world, and tourneys in different countries during offseason. Always with class and a serious vision, we keep getting more and more feedback about the future of the Miami franchise, and we hope the reality translates beyond our wildest dreams.
